New Exhibit at Gilmer Arts and Heritage Museum Features Flora and Fauna

Flora and Fauna of Northwest Georgia are the keynotes upon which the upcoming museum displays will be based. Ruby Mitchell, Fort Mountain Naturalist, and Leslie Thomas of the Garden Club of Ellijay are coordinating the two exhibits.

“We hope that the public will enjoy the exhibit as much as we have enjoyed assembling the items,” said Leslie Thomas. The Garden Club will be exhibiting antique glassware, frogs from the 1800s through the 1900s and depression glass. “Ornate objects were often multipurposed,” says Leslie. “They were created so that they could be used for flowers or for something like baking.” They will also show arrangements of dried ornamentals.

Ruby will be showing her displays of stuffed animals, all taken from the hills of Northwest Georgia. Her items will vary from snakes to small herbivores.

Flora and Fauna of Northwest Georgia will be on display until July, when the Confederate Sons of America will display items from the War Between the States. The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. There is no charge. Please stop by and visit!
